Founded in 1912, Shanghai's Datong High School is one of the first titled as “A Shanghai Experimental and Demonstrative High School.”  Among its outstanding alumni are 38 scholars such as influential statesmen Qian Qichen, Qian Zhengying, Yan Jici, and celebrities in other fields, like Hua Junwu, Zhu Jianhua and Tao Luna.

Located within the city's center, our charming campus covers an area of 7 hectares, or about 17 acres.  Datong boasts first-rate modern facilities which include a standard sports field with 400-meter plastic tracks, a gymnasium, a library with an electronic reading room, a 700-seat auditorium, well-equipped laboratories and a new art and sports center.

With the goal of “harmonious development, quality improvement and character enhancement”, Datong High School places importance upon the students’ abilities of getting along with others, learning, living and each student’s individual special abilities. The school has been pursuing curriculum reform and has developed a syllabus with diversity in courses that provide the students with a wide range of elective courses, research projects and specialized subjects such as French and German.

Our quality faculty guarantees quality teaching.  Each year, about 80 percent of our graduates are admitted into key universities and colleges nationwide.  Scores of students win first prizes in competitions of different subjects at the municipal (city) level or above.  We also recognize and emphasize the value of arts and sports with our first class symphony orchestra, traditional instrument orchestra, brass band, choir, soccer team, track and field high jumping team and more.  Due to great efforts, Datong High School has won a series of honors such as “Advanced Unit of Ideological Civilization of the Country” and “Demonstrative School with Prominence in Moral Education, Sports, Art, Science and Technology.”

Datong High School is a pioneer in international exchange, and has established friendly relations with more than twenty leading schools of a dozen countries, such as the USA, Germany, France, the UK, Switzerland, etc.
